Worthy Wednesdays - Redefining Value
Issue 01
Hello and welcome to the first issue of Worthy Wednesdays!
Let's talk about value. Not just the kind that shows up in your bank account, but the kind that shows up in life's everyday moments.
In the hundreds of conversations I've had with professionals this year, especially those navigating layoffs and the unpredictable job market, I've noticed a trend. We've become almost too transactional in how we view value.
"If I'm not charging for it, it's not valuable."
"If it's not making money, it's just a hobby."
"If I'm giving it away, I'm losing out."
Let me be clear: I'm not suggesting you shouldn't be paid what you're worth. Far from it. But in our rush to monetise everything, we sometimes miss the bigger picture of value creation and long-term return.
Think about it: Some of the most significant opportunities in my career came from moments where I gave value first. That coffee chat where I shared insights freely? It led to a major client six months later. The introduction I made without expectation? It came back as three introductions to dream collaborators. The advice I gave to a struggling colleague? They're now in a position to open doors I didn't even know existed.
Value isn't just about immediate monetary return โ it's energy exchange.
That introduction you made that led to someone's dream job? That's value.
The calm presence you bring to chaotic meetings? That's value.
The way you naturally organise information so others can understand it? That's value.
The emotional support you provide your team, even if it's not in your job description? That's immense value.
The key is finding the right balance for you โ knowing when to charge, when to give, and how to create win-win scenarios that benefit everyone in the long run. It's also knowing there is a time for giving before getting, not stopping it altogether.
This week, we're exploring how to recognise and honor all forms of value you create.
๐ WORTH
โก 5-Minute Action: Make a "Value Given" list - write down 5 ways you've helped others this week, big or small.
๐ Worth Reframe: You're not "just being helpful" โ you're actively contributing to others' success.
๐ Curated Resource: [Book] The Magic of Thinking Big - By David J. Schwartz
๐ฏ Micro-Challenge: Notice one moment each day where you receive value from others. Practice saying "thank you" instead of "no problem."
๐ฐ WEALTH
โก 5-Minute Action: Review your calendar for last week. Circle activities that energized you vs. drained you.
๐ Worth Reframe: Revenue isn't the only ROI. Time, energy, and relationship returns matter too.
๐ Curated Resource: "The Energy & Value Tracker" - Track your daily energy and value exchange with my little template. This will help you see where your energy is going and how youโre exchanging value.
๐ฏ Micro-Challenge: Choose one "free" thing you are currently doing or giving. Consciously decide: is this a value exchange I want to maintain?
๐ฟ WELLBEING
โก 5-Minute Action: Set one boundary today around your energy. "I'll help after I've had my morning routine."
๐ Worth Reframe: Protecting your energy isn't selfish โ it's how you sustain your ability to create value.
๐ Curated Resource: Balance giving and receiving in your daily life with this great read.
๐ฏ Micro-Challenge: Create a "not now" list - things you're consciously choosing not to do to protect your energy.
