After two decades of building communities (online and offline), Iāve watched this once-powerful concept get watered down. These days, everyone wants a "community," but few seem to understand what it really takes. And honestly? It's made me want to distance myself from the term entirely.
The problem isnāt that there are too many communities. The problem is that too many are built for the wrong reasons - itās misalignment.
The Current Landscape: Beyond the Noise
During countless conversations with brands and organisations, I've noticed a troubling pattern: many chase community for clout rather than commitment. They're drawn to the concept but hesitate to invest in the reality. This disparity between intention and execution has created a sea of shallow groups that add more noise than value to the ecosystem.
